For your reference, the emergency numbers while in the Czech Republic are: 158 for Police, 155 for Ambulance, 150 for Fire
*You will need to snap out the thumbnail sized Czech Republic SIM card along the perforated edge of its holder and then insert the Czech SIM card into your international cell phone with the gold contacts of the SIM card facing the metal contacts of your international cellular phone.
^Your phone will prompt you for a PIN code which can be found under a black tab of the welcome letter where your SIM card is also attached. Follow your cell phone manual instructions to correctly use the PUK to unblock your phone should you enter the PIN code incorrectly 3 times in a row. A Bank PIN and PUK in a white envelope is also included and may be disregarded.
**When calling overseas from the United States to your Czech Republic cellular phone, callers will need to dial 011 followed by the country code 42 and then your Czech Republic cell phone number, omitting the first 0 (zero). Roaming Calls (calls placed when traveling outside of the country)
With your Czech Republic Go SIM card you can make and receive calls in over 80 countries outside of the Czech Republic. Simply dial *88 from your Czech Republic cellular phone before you depart to activate this service. Do not forget to bring along a supply of Go airtime vouchers while roaming to credit your SIM card account, as these vouchers will NOT be available outside the Czech Republic.
While roaming Incoming call costs are as follows:
| Slovak Republic |
Europe |
Russia |
USA and Canada |
Other Countries |
| 16 CZK (US$0.59) |
30 CZK (US$1.11) |
40 CZK (US$1.47) |
60 CZK (US$2.21) |
100 CZK (US$3.69) |
Outgoing call costs are significantly higher and will be listed with your Go card instructions. Roaming with the Go card should be looked at as an expensive convenience. If you plan on doing a lot of talking you will definitely want to switch to a local prepaid SIM card, from Telestial. |
GPRS Data Rates (Wireless Internet)
GPRS data transmission costs are 0.6 CZK (US$0.02) per KB and 0.6 CZK (US$0.02 USD) per hour you are connected. You will be charged for the size of email or web page you download or send as well as the additional data required to control the sending and receiving of information.
A GPRS compatible phone is required to use this service. |
|
| Adding Airtime |
Your SIM card will include an initial airtime credit to start you off, however to credit your Czech Republic SIM card with additional airtime you will need to purchase Go recharge cards. These airtime vouchers may be purchased in 300, 500, 1000, and 5000 CZK denominations at most convenience stores, tabac shops and petrol stations throughout the Czech Republic.
Go voucher codes are available at face value, so a 300 CZK airtime voucher will cost you 300 CZK and subsequently will credit your Czech SIM card for 300 CZK.
To charge the Czech SIM chip with an airtime voucher simply:
- Scratch off the protective layer to reveal your recharge voucher code
- Dial *88 from your own mobile phone
- Select Option 1
- When prompted enter the 14-digit code and press # to confirm
- Confirm again with the # key
Alternatively you can enter *102*(14-digit recharge voucher code)# from your Czech Republic cellular phone to receive your call credit.
REMEMBER: Do NOT purchase another Czech Republic SIM card when your airtime credit is depleted! You only need a recharge voucher! |
|
| Service Life |
The Go service may be used for 18 months from its last credit voucher recharging. During this period you need to recharge your Go service using a Go voucher. The frequency of the recharging is not limited. Upon each recharge, the validity of your Go service is automatically extended by another 18 months. |

Keeping in touch while in Czech Republic can be very a frustrating and expensive experience without an international cell phone and Czech Republic SIM card.
Sometimes a payphone takes coins (But how many is anybody's guess!!!), other times a proprietary calling card and still others only a credit card will do with accompanying instructions that would take a week to understand.
Czech Republic cellular phone rentals can significantly cut down on the frustration of calling home while abroad but the airtime rates would bankrupt all but the thickest of wallets. Airtime rates for a Czech Republic cell phone rental can typically start at $1.50 and may be as high as $2+/minute.
Think you got a deal on your world phone and plan on doing some international roaming? With international roaming charges the airtime rate you will pay is out of this world.
The Czech Republic prepaid SIM chip is a quick and easy way to convert your existing world phone into a prepaid Czech Republic cell phone for Czech Republic and as discussed is more economical then a Czech Republic cell phone rental. For your next assignment or vacation in Czech Republic, this SIM chip (combined with an unlocked GSM World cell phone) helps you stay connected while avoiding those international roaming surcharges that always accompany your 'home' SIM card while abroad. We offer a growing selection of prepaid SIM Cards for other international destinations as well as a wide variety of GSM cell phone accessories and GSM international cell phones.
