Panama SIM Card

A Panama prepaid SIM card with a GSM international cell phone is the most convenient and economical solution for staying in touch while in Panama. All incoming calls while in Panama are FREE, regardless of where they originate. Pay the local rate for local calls and use a cellular phone in Panama like you do at home. And unlike home, your Panama SIM card and cell phone service is prepaid so there is no need for a contract.

Your Panama SIM Card (Cable & Wireless) will require a SIM-unlocked GSM 850 compatible international cell phone. If you do not have your own international cell phone, we have several models available for rental or purchase.

Domestic Calls

Domestic rates are per minute for outgoing calls from your prepaid Panama SIM card while you are in Panama. All incoming calls regardless of where they originate are FREE. Domestic outgoing call rates vary based on the airtime voucher used to top-up your account. To get you start started you have been provided with a B/. 10.00 (US$10) airtime voucher, please note that if you run out of credit and purchase an airtime voucher of another denomination the rates will change.

Text messages (SMS) to Cable & Wireless mobiles are charged at B/. 0.10 (US$0.10) per message.
Text messages (SMS) to Other Mobile operators are charged at B/. 0.15 (US$0.15) per message.

International Calls

Making international calls from your world cell phone has never been easier with your prepaid Panama SIM card. All rates are per minute for international outgoing calls from a Panama SIM card while in Panama.

All international SMS are billed at 1 minute of peak time per message.

Roaming Calls (calls placed when traveling outside of the country)

Roaming is currently not available for the Panama SIM card.

GPRS Data Rates (Wireless Internet)

GPRS/EDGE rates: B/. $0.01 (US$0.01) per KB

In order to add airtime to your Panama SIM card, please follow the instructions below. You may purchase additional airtime from Telestial, most convenience stores, tobacco shops and petrol stations in Panama. Additional airtime purchased locally, is available in the following denominations:

• B/. 5.00 (US$5) - Valid for 10 days after loading
• B/. 10.00 (US$10) - Valid for 30 days after loading
• B/. 15.00 (US$15) - Valid for 45 days after loading
• B/. 30.00 (US$30) - Valid for 60 days after loading
• B/. 50.00 (US$50) - Valid for 90 days after loading

Here is how you add your airtime.

• Locate the recharge voucher code, affixed to your SIM card package*
• Dial *166*voucher number#
• Press send
• For example if your voucher number is 123456789, you must dial *166*123456789# then press the call or send key
• You will hear your new balance and airtime expiry date.

To check the balance of your Panama SIM card, simply dial *165 and press the call or send key. Your balance will be given at the end of each call.

*Telestial provides you with a recharge voucher code, which you will find printed on a sticker, affixed to your SIM card package. At your destination, you can add your airtime and may purchase additional airtime in form of scratch cards, where you will need to scratch off the gray protective layer to reveal your recharge voucher code.

REMEMBER: Do NOT purchase another SIM card when your airtime credit is depleted! You only need a recharge voucher! Your incoming calls are always free, even when you run out of airtime.

The service life of your prepaid Panama SIM card depends on the last airtime voucher you loaded:

• B/. 5.00 (US$5) - Valid for 10 days after loading
• B/. 10.00 (US$10) - Valid for 30 days after loading
• B/. 15.00 (US$15) - Valid for 45 days after loading
• B/. 30.00 (US$30) - Valid for 60 days after loading
• B/. 50.00 (US$50) - Valid for 90 days after loading

If your balance expires and you load an airtime voucher within 15 days of the expiry date, the expired balance can be reinstated. If you do not add airtime within 30 days after your balance expires then your Mobile phone number will be recycled.
